January 25, 2023, Lambton Shores – Huron Shores Area Transit (HSAT) is pleased to announce the implementation of three new bus stops as of January 2023. The decision to install the new bus stops is based on passenger feedback and a year’s worth of bus stop usage statistics. It is expected these bus stops will increase resident access to the transit system and to the community.
One of the new bus stops on Route 2 (Grand Bend to London via Exeter route) is located on the northwest corner of the McDonald’s parking lot in Exeter, with easy access from McConnell Street and Walper Street. When HSAT routes were set up in 2020, the major intersection at Thames Road and Main Street North (CR83 and Highway 4) was under construction, preventing route planners from identifying the best spot to place a bus stop. With the installation of bus stop #2240 at arguably Exeter’s busiest part of town, it is hoped workers employed at some of South Huron’s largest employers will be able to take advantage of public transit.
Another of the new bus stops is located in Centralia, also on Route 2. Although there is a bus stop in front of Stephen Township Arena in Huron Park, the 2.2-kilometre walk from Centralia dissuaded residents from taking full advantage of the route. HSAT listened to passenger feedback and placed bus stop #1250 at 148 Melbourne Street, in front of the children’s playground.
The third new bus stop is on Route 1 (Sarnia to Grand Bend via Lambton Shores route) and breaks up a 9.3-kilometre stretch of highway between the bus stop located at MacPherson’s Restaurant in Port Franks and Points Plaza at Kettle & Stony Point First Nation, both stops located on Lakeshore Road (Highway 21). The new bus stop is installed in the large entranceway to the First Nation property located at 9356 Army Camp Road, Ipperwash. The bus is able to pull off the road to safely unload and pick up passengers, turn around and continue its journey on Lakeshore Road. This stop also came into existence due to passenger feedback and bus stop usage. The Points Plaza bus stop is one of the most used on Route 1. Passengers were walking 4.7 kilometres along the highway from Army Camp Road to reach the Points Plaza bus stop.
